Today is the day to sign up for the Snail’s Guide to Wandering (beta), a 4-week online workshop about making space for creative play within a culture of toxic productivity.
In a culture of toxic productivity, we are expect to make every second count because ‘time is money.’ But that means that our creative practice is often infused with “I should be doing X” or “Can I sell this?” or “I’m so lazy, I should be…” And we often end up feeling guilty instead of recharged. The efficiency that we aim for all day suddenly becomes a block to creative play!
We are going to spend time investigating the blocks that get in our way, and defusing the mental fireworks. We will play a little, spend time noticing our own reactions, and talk about the cultural shame messages. And we are going to doing it while being busy adults who have responsibilities and family and a to-do list that is a mile long. No one needs to quit their job or take up minimalism to have a creative practice.
How much time to do you need to participate? One hour a week for a zoom call, there will be a little suggested reading (article-length) and/or podcasts (30-60 minutes). We will be convening on Slack - an online gathering place that is often used for office communication, but its a distraction-free place to have a (text- and photo-based) conversation. If you aren’t familiar with it, we’ll sort that out before the workshop starts.
And how much time for your creative practice? We’ll just get started with a few minutes at a time, and see where that leads. The answer is going to be different for everyone!
This workshop is open to all creative people (yes! that includes you!) at any point on their creative journey. Career artists, hobby crafters, side hustlers, craft business owners, and makers of all kinds.
Go ahead and sign up today to be a part of the beta round of this workshop. The full workshop will be launching in January 2023, but the price will increase significantly.
After sign up, I’ll send you an email with a special treat to help us pass the next few weeks, and you can look for more info as we get closer to our class.
exciting! what are the dates of the beta round?
