I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art last week and saw their show Sleeping Beauties. I was taken by all the embroidery and beading on the garments, and I have spent the last week fixated on beetles (not the first time after my Beetle Magic sweater a few years ago). But when I tried to gather embroidery thread for stitching, I realized that there are so many colors of beetles, and each is made up of so many colors, that I have spent free time with week staring at beetle photos and trying to pick out the actual colors. Here are two of my favorite so far.
I don’t actually have a plan for what happens with these colors, but something will occur to me sooner or later. So far I have been looking for these colors in my embroidery floss and my spinning fibers. Let me know if you have gorgeously colorful insects that you admire. I am always looking for new specimens for my collection.
If you are curious, here are a few of the garments that inspired me.

I am trying to grow this newsletter as I prepare for launching my writing out into the world and what would help me very, very much is if you can share this post (or a different one of your choosing) with a friend who might like this sort of exploration of creativity, hobbies and haunted knit garments.
As a bonus, I am running a giveaway (see my last post) so comment below or email me to let me know you shared a post and I’ll add your name into the hat. Forwarding this email to one friend absolutely counts and also makes a huge difference to an emerging writer.
Wow I am obsesssssssed with these garments, and I love the beetle-mania ;)
I have wanted to do art with beetle themes but haven’t quite made it happen yet. I can’t wait to see what you do!
