Backpacking was cold, wet, difficult, and 100% worth it. It was gorgous out in the woods and we saw no one else once we turned off the main trail onto the trail to Puffer Pond. That might not be a surprise considering that the bridge, right at the trail junction, was out. A couple more bridges were out on that trail, and it was clear that it hadn’t been maintained in a while, so at some points it felt like bushwacking with trail markers.
But we found the lean-to just in time, and the trip got easier from then on. The cold air kept the bugs away (temps got down to 39F/4C the first night), but we had lots of tea, hot food, and firewood.
Drying. socks around the campfire looks familiar! Except I burned a hold in one of my Darn Toughs--gahhhh!!
