“Even if I manage to clear the time for creative play, I sit there and feel guilty. I end up hating the first thing I draw and getting up to do something productive.”
“It feels like I am being virtuous when I cut “sewing project” from my task list for the day”
“When get some free time, I feel like I need to ‘make it count’ and I try to start three projects while I finish another two, all while listening to a motivational podcast. I end up feeling more stressed than when I sat down to relax”
“If I can get everything done on my list, then I could have some time to paint after the kids are asleep.”
We know we want to work on our hobbies, make art, or play around with some craft supplies… but life gets in the way, right? We have to-do lists that are a mile long, and children that need us 25 hours out of every 24, and don’t get me started on the endless chores. We dream about the day when we can have hours - no, DAYS! - of time to dream, write, sew, paint, dabble, and create… but that feels a lifetime away from where we are now.
But what if it doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing? What if we can start TODAY? There are a tangle of rules around our creativity, and some of them are preventing us from starting, enjoying, or celebrating our creative works. This is true of professional artists, side hustlers, craft entrepreneurs, casual crafters, and makers. We can hustle all day long and still never feel like we have done enough - always trying to prove our worth through our checked-off tasks and how little we need for ourselves.
In this workshop, we are going recalibrate our creative compass.
We will trust that our needs are real, that our pleasure fuels us, and that our creative energy is worth more than its market value. And that our creative capacity is endless.
In this workshop I am going to help you build mental space for a creative practice and help you find time for it TODAY. It’s not about getting to the end of the to-do list (FYI: that is impossible), but putting yourself on the list. This workshop with give some gentle pressure to help you hold space for your creative practice, while also recognizing how unwieldy our loads are. We are going to cheer each other on and celebrate successes in every size through our online community and weekly zoom calls.
This workshop is launching in January 2023, but you are invited to be a beta tester in this pre-launch workshop beginning Sept 7th, 2022. This 4-week workshop will include a weekly Zoom call (attend live or watch the recording). The calls will include a presentation from me, and space for questions and discussions, and the conversations can continue in our online group.
This beta test round will be half the price of the official launch, so share this email with a friend who might want to join us!
Enrollment for the beta testers will open on Wednesday! Look for an email with the enrollment link then. I can’t wait to get started with you!
